Frequently Asked Questions
Summer Art Camp
What ages do you serve?
We offer thoughtfully designed sessions for ages 6-8 and 9-11, with projects and instruction tailored to each age group.
What does a typical day look like?
Each day blends aided instruction with tie for creative exploration. Campers will draw inspiration from the weekly theme while building skills through observation, experimentation and hands-on art making.
What is included in the cost of camp?
All materials are provided, along with a daily snack and a camp t-shirt. Every detail is taken care of so campers can fully focus on creating.
Do Campers need to bring anything?
Just a water bottle and clothes that can get a little messy-everything else is provided.
Are there field trips?
Our 9-11 sessions include thoughtfully selected field trips that connect directly to the weekly theme, offering real-world inspiration for their artwork. Each week includes one themed field trip, with the remaining days spent in the studio.
What is the group size?
We keep our groups intentionally small to allow for individualized instruction and a supportive, studio-style environment.
Will my child bring artwork home?
Yes. Campers will bring home a collection of their work at the end of the week to share and celebrate their creativity.
Is there an end-of-the-week showcase?
Our 6-8 campers will participate in a special artist showcase at the end of the week, giving families a chance to view and celebrate their work.
Does my child need prior art experience?
Not at all. Whether your child is just beginning or already loves to create, projects are designed to meet them where they are and help them grow.
Where is camp held?
Camp takes place in our studio space at Social Medium. It is located at 5311 Sunnyside Dr, Village of Clarkston, MI 48346.
What is your cancellation policy?
If your plans change, we are happy to offer the following options:
14 or more days before camp: Full refund
7-13 days before camp: 50% refund
Less than 7 days before camp: Tuition is non-refundable
Whenever possible, we're glad to help you transfer your registration to another camp week (based on availability) with at least 7 days' notice.
Because our camps are small and materials are prepared in advance, missed days cannot be refunded or credited, including absences due to illness or scheduling conflicts.
If a camp session is cancelled, a full refund will be issued.
We understand that plans change and will always do our best to offer flexibility when we are able to.

After-School Classes
What ages are your after-school classes for?
Our classes are designed for elementary-aged artists and are grouped by age so projects and instruction can be appropriately tailored to each group.
Where are the classes held?
Classes are held in our studio space at Social Medium in Clarkston. The address is 5311 Sunnyside Dr., Clarkston, MI 48346
How often do classes meet?
Each session meets once a week for six weeks. Each session features a new creative theme and a variety of hands-on art experiences.
How long is each class?
Classes are one hour for ages 6-8 and one hour and a half for ages 9-11, giving artists enough time to explore the project without making the experience feel rushed.
What is included with registration?
Registration includes all art materials and supplies needed for each class, along with a snack and instruction and guidance from a professional art educator.
Does my child need to have art experience?
Not at all! Classes are designed for a range of abilities. Projects are guided step-by-step while still giving artists plenty of opportunities to make their own creative choices.
What should my child bring to class?
Have your child bring a water bottle and their creativity! If you prefer to send a snack with your child due to food allergies, please feel free. We recommend wearing clothing that can get a little messy, especially for painting projects. Artists do have access to aprons to help protect clothing.
Will my child bring artwork home?
Yes! Artists will create a variety of projects throughout each session and will have artwork to take home and share.
What happens if my child misses a class?
Because classes are planned around a specific weekly curriculum and materials are prepared in advance, we are unable to offer make-up classes for missed sessions. We encourage families to let us know if their child will be absent.
Can I register my child for just one class?
Our after-school classes are offered as six-week sessions rather than individual drop-in classes. This allows artists to build skills, explore the theme and develop their ideas over multiple weeks.
Can I register my child after a session has already started?
If space is still available, you may be able to join a session after it begins. Please contact us to check availability.
Special Events
What types of special events do you offer?
The Creative Journey Studio offers hands-on art experiences for birthdays, friend groups, celebrations, school or community groups and other special occasions. Each experience is designed to give guests the opportunity to create something they can enjoy and take home.
How do I book a special event?
A special event begins with a Special Event Request Form. Submit your preferred date, group information and event details and we'll follow up to discuss availability and project options. Submitting a request does not guarantee your date until your event has been confirmed.
How far in advance should I request an event?
We recommend submitting your request at least two weeks in advance. More notice is always appreciated, especially for larger groups or popular dates.

Special events require a minimum of 10 participants. Smaller groups may be accommodated with a minimum event fee. Please contact us if your group falls outside this range.

Special events are approximately two hours, including guided art instruction and time to complete the project. Birthday parties can also include time for presents and cake.
What is included with my event?

Yes! Hosts are welcome to bring cake, food, presents, balloons and other simple decorations, but nothing can by hung on the walls to project them from damage. Please discuss any special setup needs when submitting your event request.

Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to make a change. We will do our best to accomodate a new date based on studio and scheduling availability.
